Section Move Up Requirements:

CCF tracks the performance of players in their tournaments. Because our tournaments are unrated, we want to ensure that there is balance in the level of play in each section. We do this by requiring students to move from their respective sections to the next highest level* after a certain number of trophies at our tournaments. These guidelines are as followed:

Pawns to Intermediate = four trophies; or outright win and two other trophies

Knights & Bishops to Intermediate = three trophies; or outright win and one other trophy

Rook to Intermediate = two trophies; or outright win

Intermediate to Advanced = two trophies; or outright win

* Intermediate is the section above Novice, regardless of grade level section. Advanced is the section above Intermediate.

Note: All Novice players are welcome and encouraged to move to our Intermediate or Advanced section at any time. Stronger competition usually leads to sustained growth.
