The Ghana-Chicago Chess Exchange began in February 2021 in an effort to create cross-cultural relationships between students in Chicago and students in Accra, Ghana. These students will meet each month online to compete in a chess tournament, and also participate in breakout sessions where they are able to meet virtually face to face and discuss their cultures.

“Our partnership demonstrates the power chess has to break down the barriers of age, race, culture and gender — and a gap of 6,000 miles – to forge harmony and respect across the globe.”
— Ghanaian Organizer
