Beginner: Tevy Oum

Tevy is in her 3rd year studying Rehabilitation Sciences and Nursing at UIC. She started playing chess in 5th grade but didn't seriously play until high school. She considers herself to be playing chess for about 6 years. Tevy likes chess because it is a beautiful game and can teach you a lot about someone based on their playing style.

Experienced: Besher Jabri (short bio)

Besher is a second year student double-majoring in biomedical engineering and data science to prepare for medical school at UIC. His dad taught me chess when he was in the fifth grade, and Besher has loved it ever since. He started playing chess competitively when as a junior in high school. Besher loves the game because, “the community of chess players is great, and the game itself is filled with strategy and creativity. No matter how well I think I played a game, there was always a better way that I could've played it, and that fuels my love for the game.”
