2021 Scholastic Chess Tournament: Beginner and Intermediate only

On May 15th, CCF will be hosting one of our monthly tournaments in conjunction with a nation wide learning festival called Remake Learning Days (https://remakelearningdays.org/). This tournament will be open to all K-8 Chicago chess players K-8 that have current ChessKid ratings at or below 1350. Any players above this level are encouraged to join the advanced Simul offerings on the same day through LiChess.

Below are the levels for this tournament:


Novice Tournament: Tournament for players with a ChessKid rating of 1000 or under.

Intermediate Tournament: Tournament for players with a ChessKid rating of 1350 or under.

Please note that these tournaments MUST BE ACCESSED THROUGH A BROWSER and not a mobile device of any kind (phone, tablet, etc.) Visit, https://www.chesskid.com/tournaments/how-to-join-live-tournaments for more information on technical recommendations for participating in this tournament. In April, we did have a number of technical difficulties, but if players use a Google Chrome browser, we should be able to avoid a number of these problems.

Tournament Registration

*All players who have joined the CCF ChessKid enterprise already set-up to join this tournament. This means that if your son or daughter has participated in a CCF online event through ChessKid, they are not required to re-register for this tournament. These players will be required to join their tournament through the waiting room, which opens at 9:45am on the day of the tournament.

Students without existing ChessKid accounts:

For students who do not currently have a ChessKid account, CCF will be able to create one for you. All we will need from you is your first and last name, school name, and a contact email address. Please email this information to programs@chicagolandchess.org.


Students with an existing ChessKid account:

CCF owns what is called an Enterprise Account. All Chicagoland players who wish to participate in any of our online programming is qualified to join our enterprise. Players will join our enterprise and be organized by their school. Below are instructions for how to join the CCF enterprise:

As you see, your will need a school code. Please click here to find your player's school code. If you do not see your school on the list, please reach out to programs@chicagolandchess.org and we will give you further instructions.

*COACHES: please feel free to add your complete team into the CCF enterprise group and your students will have access to all CCF programming.

Tournament Expectations

To make this experience great for all, participants will be expected to:

  1. Commit to playing all rounds of the tournament.

  2. Arrive at the tournament at least 5 minutes prior to the start (9:55 am) of the first round. Players will be able to access the tournament 15 minutes prior to the start at 10:00am

  3. Play with integrity and sportsmanship.
